Jan Zahradil, President of the AECR, called for an end to the violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh region and expressed his sincere condolences to all affected civilians.
This morning, he said:
I am gravely concerned over the resumed clashes in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and deeply saddened at the senseless loss of life. The parties should end all violence, strictly adhere to the ceasefire, and swiftly return to negotiations towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Moreover, Zahradil emphasized that there is no military solution to the conflict and no alternative to a peaceful settlement in order to stabilize the situation. All conflicting parties should avoid any further escalation and honour the ceasefire declared in 1994.
Recent fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave has left at least 30 dead. AECR is firmly committed to working with both of its members in the area – the Prosperous Armenia Party and the Popular Front Party for the Whole of Azerbaijan – to reach a lasting and negotiated peace in Nagorno-Karabakh.
