At the Conservatives & Reformists Summit Antalya 2016, Ahmed El Hariri, the Secretary General of the Lebanese party Future Movement, highlighted the political challenges in the Middle East caused by the Syrian Civil War.
His keynote speech focused on the political situation in Lebanon. It analyzed the Lebanese need for a democratically elected president as well as the strong influence of Iran on Lebanon. Ahmed El Hariri also explained the consequences of the Syrian crisis for his country.
As for Lebanon, we are facing many challenges that are linked to the crisis in Syria […]. The Syrian crisis affected Lebanon politically, socially, economically and in terms of security.
I can classify these challenges under three important themes: the deadlock in the functioning of our constitutional institutions, the Syrian refugee crisis, and the challenges of terrorism and extremism.
