The European Conservatives and Reformists Party expresses its concern over the dangerous escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Such an escalation risks the fragile stability in this strategic region. We call for an immediate end to hostilities and a return to dialogue between the two parties with full international mediation and in line with the international law and obligations of two parties.
We call on the EU and our transatlantic partners in the U.S. to engage more in the region and facilitate the dialogue between two sides. In the absence of our leadership, it may be up to Russia and Turkey or even China and Iran, to fill in the diplomatic vacuum and impose their strategic interests at the expenses of both nations security and the stability of the region.
The ECR Party has member parties from both Armenia and Azerbaijan, and has listened to the concerns of both sides carefully on this issue. The ECR Party reiterates its position that this is an issue that must be resolved at the negotiating table between the two parties.
ECR Party Secretary General Anna Fotyga MEP said: "South Caucasus remains the strategic region for Europe not only in terms of energy security or connectivity. We cannot risk the relationship with them being damaged by the ongoing hostilities. I call all the parties and transatlantic community to facilitate the dialogue and peaceful resolution of the conflict".
