RNH discussing the future of capitalism

The Icelandic Research Centre for Innovation and Economic Growth (RNH) organised 17 capitalism events as part of the AECR project "Europe, Iceland and the Future of Capitalism" and in collaboration with the Independence Party (Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn) in 2015.

RNH’s Academic Director, Prof Hannes H. Gissurarson, discussed the relationship between Sweden and Iceland in Stockholm, criticized Thomas Piketty’s famous demand for global redistribution of income in Tallinn, offered his personal recollections of Friedrich A. von Hayek, Karl Popper and Milton Friedman in Berlin, and analysed Iceland’s economic freedom in Sofia.

Moreover, Gissurarson held several lectures at national conferences and seminars: on Ayn Rand’s moral defence of capitalism, on Iceland and the Anglo-Saxon powers, on the liberal reforms in Iceland under the leadership of David Oddsson, and on Icelandic companies and European authorities after the 2008 economic collapse.

Further lecturers included the historian Gudni Th. Johannesson, Prof Rognvaldur Hannesson, Prof Ragnar Arnason, former Icelandic Minister Ogmundur Jonasson, and US investor Bill Browder.

RNH also co-organised the regional meeting of the European Students for Liberty, and it assisted the Public Book Club (Almenna bokafelagid) with two new translation projects.

Icelandic media has covered most of these events extensively.
